LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Keeping up with technology

Aleksia Herrera, Alice

I am a senior at Alice High School and a member of the South Texas Youth Congress.

I want to share how fiber optics would benefit South Texas schools. South Texas has been behind the rest of the state for far too long. And we have allowed it.

What are we waiting for? We need to swing the door of opportunity open for future generations of South Texas students. Today learning is constant and requires modern top speed broadband connections. Learning and opportunity should not be confined to the ZIP code we live in nor by outdated resources.

Fiber optics will give us the super speed connection to progress and improve opportunities. We (the students) are living in a different time. The days of books and chalkboards are passing away, we are in an age where we can access the world with a few key strokes, with the swipe on a screen. We are living in an age with remarkable technology. We need to catch up or do we stay in place and fall further behind? The time to move forward is now. We are the future!
